Insycle Merge Revert vs Emergency Unmerge: What Each Can and Cannot Restore (2026)

Insycle's merge revert is a partial workaround that recreates records from the CSV report generated when the merge ran, and its own documentation says it "may not offer a full recovery." Emergency Unmerge reconstructs merged HubSpot contacts, companies, and deals from property history, with no prior report required, creating new records with new Record IDs.

Disclosure: we make Emergency Unmerge. Every Insycle claim on this page is quoted from Insycle's own support documentation and pricing pages, checked July 2, 2026. Where their documentation is silent, we say "not published" rather than guessing. Insycle is a mature, well-documented platform, and its candor about the revert being partial is to its credit.

What can Insycle's merge revert restore, and what can Emergency Unmerge restore?

For HubSpot native merges, Insycle's workaround recreates contacts, companies, courses, deals, leads, listings, tickets, and custom objects from the original merge run's CSV report. Emergency Unmerge reconstructs contacts, companies, and deals from HubSpot property history, scores every field with a confidence rating, and requires no pre-saved report.

Category Insycle Merge Revert Emergency Unmerge
Objects supported (HubSpot native merges) "This workaround lets you recreate contacts, companies, courses, deals, leads, listings, tickets, and custom objects that were merged using HubSpot's built-in merge logic." (Insycle support doc) Contacts, companies, and deals. Recovery claims stop there: no tickets, courses, leads, listings, or custom objects.
Objects supported (Insycle Synthetic merges) "You can recover HubSpot companies, courses, deals, leads, listings, tickets, and custom objects that were merged using Insycle's Synthetic merge." Contacts are absent from this list. (Insycle support doc) Not applicable. Emergency Unmerge reconstructs records merged in HubSpot, for contacts, companies, and deals.
Contact-record compatibility "Since the Synthetic merge is not compatible with contact records, this unmerge process is not available for them." Contacts are covered only on the HubSpot-native-merge path. (Insycle support doc) Contacts fully supported. The sidebar card appears on every contact, company, and deal record.
Merged activities "Activities such as notes, emails, or tasks from the duplicates that were assigned to the master record cannot be removed." (Insycle support doc) Reconstructs associations, including notes, emails, tasks, and calls, and assigns them to the correct separated records. Reviewable before execution.
Inputs required The CSV report from the original merge run: "When you ran the merge operation, you should have received an email containing the CSV report. If you can't find the email, you can download the file from the Activity Tracker." Records are then re-imported through Insycle's Magical Import. (Insycle support doc) Nothing saved in advance. The free scan reads the record's merge and property history directly from HubSpot.
Time limits Not published. A targeted check of the revert article found no stated retention window or deadline (checked July 2, 2026). Works on merges from minutes ago or months ago. Very old merges may show No Merge Detected if property history was overwritten.
Resulting records Their article describes recreating records by re-importing them from the CSV report. (Insycle support doc) Creates new records with new Record IDs; HubSpot's API cannot restore the originals. Original values are preserved in the Emergency Unmerge property group.
Completeness, in each vendor's own words "Although it may not offer a full recovery, Insycle can partially restore merged duplicates and undo the changes to the master records." (Insycle support doc) Probabilistic reconstruction, not guaranteed. Simple merges typically achieve 90%+ confidence; complex records may be lower. Every field is reviewed with a confidence score before execution.
Price model Subscription sized by record count. The public pricing page shows no dollar amounts, and plans include "unlimited usage and unlimited operations (update, merge, delete, create, etc.)" (insycle.com/pricing). Their pricing support article lists the Starter plan at $1 per 1,000 records on annual billing. One-time credits, no subscription. $4.99 for 100 credits, the scan is always free, and credits never expire. Simple records start at 10 credits.

Two more details from Insycle's article worth knowing: the revert also involves cleanup on the surviving record, since associations copied from the duplicates onto the master record need to be removed as part of the workaround. And for Synthetic-merged records, the restore leans on HubSpot's own recycle bin; Insycle's article says these records "can easily be recovered by accessing HubSpot's recycle bin" and that "All deleted duplicate records from the merge will be available for restoration on the Restore page, complete with all associations, activities, history, and field values."

Can Insycle unmerge HubSpot contact records?

It depends on how the merge happened. For contacts merged with HubSpot's built-in merge, Insycle documents a recreate workaround using the merge run's CSV report. For its own Synthetic merge, Insycle states the process "is not available" for contacts because Synthetic merge is not compatible with contact records.

This distinction matters because contacts are the object most people need to unmerge. If the merge came through Insycle's Synthetic path, their documentation offers no contact recovery at all. If it was a HubSpot native merge, their workaround depends on having the CSV report from the original run. Emergency Unmerge takes a different route for contacts, companies, and deals: it reconstructs the pre-merge records from HubSpot's property history, so there is no report to find. See how the reconstruction works.

What happens to activities that merged onto the surviving record?

Insycle's documentation is direct: "Activities such as notes, emails, or tasks from the duplicates that were assigned to the master record cannot be removed." Emergency Unmerge reconstructs associations, including notes, emails, tasks, and calls, and assigns them to the correct separated records, with everything reviewable before execution.

In a HubSpot merge, all timeline activities from both records combine onto the survivor, per HubSpot's merge documentation. Untangling which note, email, task, or call belonged to which original record is a large part of what makes unmerging hard, and it is the part Insycle's article explicitly excludes. Emergency Unmerge's reconstruction assigns those associations to the correct records as part of the plan you review, and nothing is written to your CRM until you click Execute.

Do other dedupe tools offer a merge undo?

No other major dedupe vendor claims one. Koalify's knowledge base says "Record merges in HubSpot are currently irreversible." Dedupely writes "we still haven't found a reliable way to do it, and therefor we don't," the spelling is theirs. HubSpot's own Knowledge Base states "It's not possible to unmerge records."

Sources, all from the vendors themselves: Koalify's knowledge base advises validating records before a bulk merge precisely because merges are irreversible, and its blog FAQ adds "Contact merges in HubSpot are permanent and can't be undone." Dedupely's deduplication guide explains they declined to build an undo because of the technical difficulty. And HubSpot's Knowledge Base answers the question "Can I unmerge records?" with a flat no. Insycle's partial revert is the only competitor workaround in the category, which is why this page compares against it specifically.

When is Insycle the better choice?

Choose Insycle when you need ongoing data management, not just merge recovery. It is a full platform with unlimited operations across its plans. And if you ran the merge in Insycle recently and saved the CSV report, especially on companies, deals, or tickets, their documented revert may be the simpler path.

When is Emergency Unmerge the better choice?

Choose Emergency Unmerge when the merge already happened and no report was saved, which is how most accidental merges arrive. It needs no CSV, no prior setup at merge time, and no subscription. The scan is free, credits start at $4.99 for 100, and it covers contacts, companies, and deals.

Auditing a whole portal first? The merge audit guide covers HubSpot's native merge history, its 90-day limit, and the Free Bulk Scan for up to 10,000 records per job.

What are Emergency Unmerge's honest limitations?

Unmerging creates new records with new Record IDs because HubSpot's API cannot restore the originals. Results are probabilistic, not guaranteed; simple merges typically reach 90%+ confidence, complex records may be lower. Very old merges may show No Merge Detected if property history was overwritten. Original values are preserved for reference.
